Colloidal gold spheres can be used as calibration particles for AFM imaging on nanoscale below 20 nanometers. Study shows that colloidal gold is incompressible therefore well suited for height calibration.
Figure 1 shows 1.5x1.5 micron scan of 14nm nominal diameter of colloidal gold spheres (Ted Pella Inc) deposited on ml-base.
Figure 2 shows particle volume distribution obtained on colloidal spheres shown on Figure 1
